Locoe is a Indicazione Geografica tipica, obtained from red local grapes, carignano, muristellu and pascale di Cagliari grapes.
Mature in chestnut casks for 9 months, then bottled. The harvest period is between the 2nd week of September and the 1st of October. The grapes are harvested by hand and within a few hours worked in the cellar with the help of tools and craft equipment and a soft treatment, which aims at obtaining high quality wines.
Sardinian red wine, ruby, with a fruity scent with red fruit scent: blackberries and plums. On the palate it is well structured, harmonious and persistent. It goes well with red meats, stewed meats and sheep cheeses with partial seasoning.
Locoe, or, as reported by the scholar of Sardinian things D. Turchi, Locòle, or even Locoy, as contained in the documents of the Spanish rulers, is for the orgolesi synonymous with good land, to be devoted to agriculture: vineyards, precisely, olive groves , but also arable crops and vegetable gardens. Locoe was the name of the homonymous village that "at the end of 1600 was abandoned and its inhabitants merged part in Orgosolo and part in Oliena ... the two municipalities divided ... the territory".
According to the same scholar, the inhabitants were decimated by a terrible famine, which occurred in 1688, and the survivors repaired in neighboring municipalities. According to the "Historical Geographic Dictionary of the States of S.M. the King of Sardinia "del Casalis, on the contrary" the ancient village of Locoi remained deserted in 1810 "and at the time of the compilation of the book (1826)" the prisons in perpetual emphyteusis jump the aforementioned destroyed village, and pay for the same 500 new lire a year. "However they came into possession - the Municipality of Orgosolo still retains the original of a" divisional "card, compiled just after the middle of the 19th century, for the realization of the lots to be assigned to the different family nuclei - the princes have tilled and reclaimed this land by planting vineyards and olive groves. The efforts made have repaid them abundantly also for the mild climate and, above all, for the fertility of the site.
